March 2005 Newsletter

"Never look at the trombones,
it only encourages them."
- Richard Strauss

There is no end to number of trombone jokes out there - it's one of the great enduring traditions of music. The trombone was doomed to this fate ever since its forerunners were called "sackbuts." Be that as it may, it really has nothing to do with the rest of this newsletter - it just made me laugh, and so the quote deserved to be repeated here. Besides, I felt that my previous quotes were getting to be too predictably "holiday themed" - so, thankfully, the March quote has nothing to do with shamrocks or four-leaf clovers.

Lot's of new stuff this month in the world of Seaside Brass. Firstly, you'll notice that our web-store has expanded to include a large listing of sheet music. This section will be constantly expanding, so come back to check it out often. My approach to selling music on the web is a bit different than others. I've been burned too many times - buying arrangements sight-unseen, just rolling the dice and coming up snake-eyes far too often. I believe in the time-honored tradition of "try before you buy." So, there are sheet music samples and audio clips of every piece we sell (at least, eventually there will be.)

The other big news is: our "Peter & the Wolf" arrangement is finally complete! We will start rehearsing this week for a premier concert tentatively scheduled for early this May. Later this month we may add some more P&W clips to the Projects In The Works page, so stay tuned!

Erin Go Braugh!

Sorry, I couldn't help myself.
