January 2005 Newsletter I've chosen Prokofiev for the quote this month because I'm renewing my endeavor to develop the "Peter & the Wolf" project this year - call it a "resolution". (see Projects in the Works for demos of P&W) Stay tuned, as we may be posting some more samples of this vast work soon. Another reason I like this quote is because C Major is the first key every student learns - January is the first month - so, I think it's appropriate. On a serious note - I'd like to send out our thoughts and prayers to all of the people affected by the recent tragedy of the Asian Tsunamis. If you are looking for a way to contribute to the relief effort, consider donating to one of the relief agencies in this link. On that note, perhaps we can find a deeper meaning in this month's quote: that there is beauty in simplicity. The "American Way" often seems to be to gather as many things as possible: ever bigger houses and cars, ever better entertainment systems, ever more DVDs, clothes, trinkets, et al. Consumerism can make us lose sight of the things we allready have that are truly meaningful. We can find an infinite amount of joy in the simple things in life - the things we may take for granted - the really important things: family, freinds, music, whatever moves you. In this time of tragedy when so many have lost so much, remember what you have. Happy New Year. - Karl Soukup, Proprietor
