February 2006 Newsletter

"My motto was always to keep swinging."

I'm writing this month's newsletter on Superbowl Sunday, and I thought it would be fitting to have a sports quote. Yeah, I know, it's a baseball quote . . . but, stick with me on this one. Obviously, the quotes I choose are always musical in nature somehow, and topical. It's kinda fun to think of this quote in terms of Jazz. And it just so happens that I'll be auditioning for the Masters program in Jazz performance at SDSU later this month - so, I plan to keep on swingin'!

Also, in other swingin' news, the Brad Steinwehe Big Band will be performing at Dizzy's on Tuesday night, February 21st at 8:30pm. Andrew and I are members of the trumpet section, along with Doug Meeuwson and Greg Beck, and of course Brad - all of whom have performed with Seaside Brass at some time in the past. This a really great Big Band, with lots of talented players - be sure to check it out. We're in the midst of recording a cd - listen to a few of the tracks here: http://homepage.mac.com/lipshurt/Menu8.html under "iDisk public folder" and "Brads working mixes".

Not too much else going on. Terence Cooper is the official replacement for Jamie Brees in groups such as Maritime Wind Corps, The Patriots, and on the jazz gigs that Seaside Brass performs. Still trying out some guys on the Classical french horn chair for Seaside Brass weddings, concerts, and educational outreach programs. Glen Rappold replaces Jamie on guitar for Lost at Sea. And Chris Joss replaces Jamie on accordion for Irate Pirates (although, he's leaving town too - know any accordionists?). It's like I said in the last newsletter - Jamie's impossible to replace! We miss you, man!

See yins later!
